Bernie Worrell, Gary Mudbone Cooper, Funkadelic guitarist Michael Hampton and Bootsy formed the backing band for Deee-Lite's world tour in 1990. The same year marked the return of Bootsy's Rubber Band with the Laswell-produced 'Jungle Bass' EP on the Island label 4th & Broadway. Work with Laswell intensified and the concept of 'Cyberfunk' became the basis for the next album of Laswell's key project Praxis: 'Transmutation (Mutatis Mutandis)' on his label Axiom Records. With Bootsy on Space Bass and Vocals, Bernie Worrell on keys, young guitarist Buckethead, Brain on drums and Af Next Man Flip (aka Afrika Baby Bam) on turntables, Praxis created Funk for the 21st Century. Laswell's hard industrial soundscapes and Buckethead's metal guitar inferno combined with the incredibly tight playing of Bootsy, Bernie and Brain created a Tour-de-force Funk experience. Bootsy also appears on the 'Hallucination Engine' album of Laswell's world music collective Material, with Jonas Hellborg on the Deadline 'Dissident' record and Anton Fier's Golden Palominoes album 'This Is How It Feels'.
